Toyota Creative Idea and Suggestion System (TCISS)

Toyota implements 700,000 employee suggestions each year. Toyota shaved $9bn off costs over five years by asking their employees to suggest ideas to reduce costs

Dow Chemical's annual innovation tournament

At Dow Chemical employees participate in an annual innovation tournament focused on reducing waste and saving energy. The tournament calls for ideas that require an initial investment of no more than $200,000, and those costs must be recoverable within a year. Peers review the submissions, with monetary rewards going to the winners.  Over more than a decade, the resulting 575 projects have produced an average return of 204% and saved the company $110m a year.

Innocent's employee-led innovation

An employee rebranded the Juicy Water line to This Water and sales increased from £8m to £31m. Another employee suggested that Innocent could do for vegetables what they had done for fruit. The company’s Veg Pot line is now worth £30 million

Audi's continuous improvement programme

At Audi two maintenance workers noticed the ventilation system in their buildings were operating day and night. The pair suggested running the ventilation systems during the week from 6 a.m. until 10 p.m. This saved Audi $122,000 a year. Audi saved €33 million in its Győr and Brussels plants after implementing more than 10,100 employee suggestions in 2017
